Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi Alami held talks on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, with a Global Africa Latina Foundation delegation currently visiting the Kingdom of Morocco.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Speaker of the House welcomed the Foundation members who represent various Latin American countries. In this respect, he pointed out that the Moroccan House of Representatives has strengthened its relations with similar legislative institutions in Latin America, which has enabled it to acquire observer status in many of them.
Rachid Talbi Alami noted that the reciprocal meetings and visits enabled a constant reflection on ways for institutionalizing South-South parliamentary relations, considering the geopolitical position of the Kingdom of Morocco as the gateway to Africa, and given the common political, economic, social, cultural and historical questions and concerns.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives affirmed that Latin American and African countries could all benefit from the progress made by the Kingdom of Morocco in terms of the institutional and democratic construction, in human rights, fight against terrorism, migration and migrant policies and its management of COVID-19, in a way that serves the supreme national interests and accomplishes the aspired development.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives stressed that joint action and building South-South bridges is the ultimate purpose and that dialogue and discussion remain the civilized method to overcome all difficulties and obstacles. In addition, he noted that there is no doubt that the Foundation members share the same conviction and that he and the members of the House are open to any proposals to work together for the progress and prosperity of the countries of the two regions.
For their part, the Global Africa Latina Foundation delegation members congratulated Rachid Talbi Alami on his election as Speaker of the House of Representatives. Besides, they welcomed the ideas and proposals he made to strengthen South-South parliamentary cooperation through uplifting the relations between African countries, mainly Morocco, and Latin American countries, and via establishing trust, dialogue and cooperation.
The members of the Foundation’s delegation noted that the Foundation’s action covers several political, economic and academic fronts and includes prominent Latin American figures that took part in the meeting with the Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives. These figures also aspire to strengthen ties with the Kingdom of Morocco, including the parliamentary ones, through fora, meetings, reciprocal visits and by consolidating the role of parliamentary friendship groups. The delegation members added that South-South action is at the heart of their interests, through the consolidation of the principles of solidarity and friendship via bilateral and multilateral agenda. They also noted that the parliaments of Latin American countries are open to all proposals and initiatives emanating from the Moroccan House of Representatives.
