Moroccan Parliament Elected Representative of Arab Group within Committee on Peace and International Security in the IPU

The Kingdom of Morocco has earned the trust of the Arab Geopolitical Group again to be its representative within the Committee on Peace and International Security in the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The decision was taken on Thursday, November 25, 2021, during a preparatory meeting of the Arab Group, held in Madrid ahead of the 143rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (November 26-30), with the participation of Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi Alami and Speaker of the House of Councilors Naam Miyara.

The Kingdom of Morocco, whose mandate will expire in April 2023, will be the chief coordinator of the Arab Group within the Inter-Parliamentary Union and of its joint positions regarding the vital questions of peace and security.

The IPU's Committee on Peace and International Security gives the member Parliaments the necessary political framework for making efficient decisions to counter the global threats arising in this respect.

As a principal forum on this matter, the Committee analyzes the peace and security developments and contributes to the elaboration and implementation of responses to them.

In addition to its main focus, which is consolidating worldwide peace and security, the Committee also focuses on preventing conflicts and preserving peace.

The Inter-Parliamentary Union holds its 143rd Assembly on November 26-30 in Madrid. The Assembly will be attended by hundreds of members and delegates of the IPU. This major international parliamentary gathering will discuss the means to overcome division and consolidate cohesion to address the current democratic challenges.

The event also will feature the participation of Speakers of National Parliaments, delegations of the member States, representatives of labor unions and the regional parliamentary organizations as permanent observers.
