President of the Morocco-Mexico Parliamentary Friendship Group Mr. Jamal Benchekroun Krimi held talks, Monday, January 13th, 2020 at the House of Representatives, with president of the Morocco-Mexico Friendship Group in the Mexican Chamber of Deputies Ms. Maria Del Carmen Bautista Peláez, who is currently on a working visit to Morocco.
The Mexican parliamentary delegation includes, in addition to the president of the Friendship Group, Ms. Guadalupe Ramos Sotelo, Ms. Ruth Salinas Reyes, Ms. Geraldina Isabel Herrera Vega, and the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the Mexican Chamber of Deputies Mr. Alfredo Fermat Bañuelos.
At the start of the meeting, Mr. Jamal Benchekroun Krimi commended the high level of cooperation between the two countries in different fields and the historical bonds linking the two countries, noting that this visit marks the start for a renewed diplomatic project.
Members of the Moroccan-Mexican Parliamentary Friendship Group present in the meeting, Ms. Mina Talbi, Mr. Aziz Lebbar, and Mr. Al Kabeer Qada, praised the excellent relations linking Morocco and Mexico, and the shared values of the two peoples, affirming the vital role of parliamentary diplomacy in consolidating the relationships between the two countries.
Besides, the Members of the Morocco-Mexico Parliamentary Friendship Group called for fostering cooperation between the two countries in economy, trade, and culture, and for capitalizing on the competencies of the two countries in this regard.
The members of the Moroccan-Mexican Parliamentary Friendship Group also reviewed the evolution of the diplomatic relations linking Morocco and Mexico since 1962, recalling the visit of HM King Mohammed VI to Mexico in 2004, and the one performed by the former Mexican president Mr. Vicente Fox to Morocco in 2005, which promoted the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The members of the Morocco-Mexico Parliamentary Friendship Group discussed several topics, such as the Moroccan experience in integrating women and young people into political life.
Also, the members of the Morocco-Mexico Parliamentary Friendship Group reiterated their call for the establishment of a Morocco-Mexico parliamentary forum, following the previous call voiced by Mr. Habib El Malki, on the sidelines of his visit to Mexico, to represent His Majesty King Mohammed VI at the inauguration ceremony of the current Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
For her part, Ms. Maria Del Carmen Bautista Peláez said that this visit aims, primarily, to strengthen the dialogue between Mexico and Morocco, who share several values, adding that the Parliamentary Friendship Group plays an essential role in strengthening political and economic relations between the two countries.
Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Mexican Chamber of Deputies Mr. Alfredo Fermat Bañuelos, expressed his esteem towards HM King Mohammed VI, stressing Mexico’s keenness to deepen the relations of friendship and cooperation with brotherly and friendly countries in all continents. He added that Mexico attaches great importance to the African continent, which makes Morocco its gate.
The member called on for reinforcing cooperation between Morocco and Mexico in the various fields and serve the interests of the two peoples.
It is worth mentioning that the Morocco-Mexico Parliamentary Friendship Group was launched at the Mexican Chamber of Deputies in October 2019 to promote exchanges between the legislative institutions of the two countries.
