Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, held bilateral talks on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the Seat of the House in Rabat, with the Speakers and representatives of the legislative assemblies of Central America, the Caribbean, and Mexico (FOPREL), upon the conclusion of the 30th FOPREL Extraordinary Meeting the Moroccan Parliament hosted on November 27-28, 2024.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives received respectively the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador, Hon. Ernesto Alfredo Castro Aldana; the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Dominican Republic, Hon. Alfredo Pacheco Osoria; the Speaker of the National Congress of Honduras, Hon. Luis Redondo Guifarro; and the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Panama, Mr. Jamis Gaspar Acosta Guerra.
Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami also received the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of Belize, Mr. Jorge Emilio Espat; the Deputy Speaker of the Congress of Guatemala, Mr. César Amezquita; the Former Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica, Former President of the FOPREL (2014-2021), and Chairperson of the Committee on International Relations and External Trade at the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Luis Fernando Mendoza; and the Former Speaker and current member of the Mexican House of Representatives, Ms. Marcela Guerra.
During the meetings, the Speakers and representatives of the legislative assemblies of FOPREL commended the success of the Extraordinary Meeting hosted by the Moroccan Parliament. They also lauded the prominent resolutions it culminated in, particularly the resolution granting the Moroccan Parliament the status of advanced partner within the FOPREL.
Besides, they underscored the important role of parliamentary diplomacy in reinforcing the cooperation ties betweeonthe Kingdom of Morocco and the various FOPREL Member States, and the imperative of moving forward in the reinforcement of parliamentary cooperation and activating the joint parliamentary friendship groups of the Moroccan Parliament and the various FOPREL member Parliaments.
On this occasion, the Speaker of the House recalled the common challenges the Kingdom and the FOPREL countries face, which require intensive cooperation and the exchange of experiences and expertise in areas and questions of mutual concern.
Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami also shed light on the manifestations of global and multidimensional development the southern provinces of the Kingdom of Morocco witness, adding that the autonomy proposal presented by the Kingdom to end the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara enjoys broad international support.
He also highlighted the strategic initiatives launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist him, within the scope of strengthening South-South cooperation, mentioning particularly the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline project, the Atlantic Initiative for African countries, and other projects and agreements in the same regard.
