As part of their participation, the Pan-African Parliament delegation, led by the President of the institution, Hon. Chief Fortune Charumbira, held a prominent side event under the theme: "Strengthening Africa’s Climate Resilience: Advancing Adaptation Strategies and Securing Climate Justice.” This platform brought together African parliamentarians, climate negotiators, policymakers, and international stakeholders to address Africa’s unique challenges in adapting to climate change while anchoring the principles of climate justice.
Hon. Fortune Charumbira also performed a visit, alongside the two Representatives, to the pavilion of the Kingdom of Morocco, where he met several Moroccan parliamentarians to whom he expressed his admiration of the excellent Moroccan experience in climate adaptation and sustainable development, noting that the Kingdom is a role model in this field for African countries.
COP29 gathers leaders of governments, businessmen, and civil society actors with a view to finding innovative and applicable solutions to climate change, while focusing efforts on the imperative of financing in order to support developing countries to curb greenhouse gas emissions and protect lives and means of life from the aggravating repercussions of climate change.
The Conference will also be an opportunity for the participating countries to present their updated national action plans as regards the climate following the clauses of the Paris Agreement of 2015, which aim to achieve the objective of limiting global warming to less than 1.5 Celsius. Said clauses would operate as investment plans to advance the sustainable development goals.
