Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, met on Thursday, September 19, 2024, with the President of the Pan-African Parliament, Hon. Fortune Charumbira.
During the meeting, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami and Hon. Fortune Charumbira discussed several topics of common interest, in particular ways of injecting new momentum into cooperation between the Moroccan and African Parliaments, identifying areas of cooperation, and promoting effective parliamentary action in the service of Africa and its peoples.
Besides, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami reiterated the Kingdom of Morocco's determination to promote joint African action, as well as the various programs of the continental legislative institution in support of social and economic progress, educational systems, regional integration, democratic governance, and peace on the continent.
He also noted that the Kingdom of Morocco is a major player in intra-African cooperation, highlighting the strategic vision and leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist him, which have positioned the Kingdom as a key economic player in Africa.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives recalled the many initiatives and strategic projects launched by His Majesty the King to promote the continent's development.
Following in his footsteps, the President of the Pan-African Parliament praised the initiatives undertaken by the Kingdom of Morocco, under the wise leadership of the Sovereign, in favor of Africa and African citizens.
He also cited the major Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline Project, the ambitious Royal Africa-Atlantic initiative to give certain African countries access to the Atlantic Ocean, and the cancellation of the debt of certain least-developed African countries.
He also noted that the many investments made by the Kingdom on the continent and the numerous cooperation agreements signed with its African partners illustrate, in many respects, its laudable efforts for an integrated, prosperous, and resolutely forward-looking Africa.
The talks between the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the Pan-African Parliament took place on the sidelines of the 12th Annual Conference of Speakers of Parliament, held from September 18 to 20 at PAP Seat in Midrand, South Africa.
In addition to Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, the Moroccan Parliament is represented at the PAP’s September session by Rep. Laila Dahi (Group of the National Rally of Independents), Rep. Khadija Arouhal (Group of Progress and Socialism), Rep. Abdessamad Haiker (Parliamentary Caucus of Justice and Development), and Cllr. Hanae Belkhir (Group of the General Union of Moroccan Workers).
