Speaker of the House of Representatives and Minister of Digital Transition and Administration Reform Sign Partnership Agreement on Implementing the Official Character of Amazighe in the Proceedings of the House of Representatives

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, and Minister of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, Ms. Ghita Mezzour, signed on Monday, June 10, 2024, at the Seat of the House in Rabat, a partnership agreement on implementing the official character of Amazighe in the proceedings of the House of Representatives. 

In her statement on this occasion, Ms. Ghita Mezzour underscored the keenness of the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform to assist and support the House of Representatives in integrating Amazighe in its proceedings under Organic Law 26-16, particularly its Article 9, which stipulates the use of Amazighe alongside Arabic in the proceedings of the plenary sittings of the Parliament and its organs.

Ms. Ghita Mezzour noted that, by virtue this agreement, the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform will work on expanding the scope of cooperation to reach broader areas to reinforce the use of Amazighe, including updating the translation of the content of the signposts in Amazighe. 

For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives praised the partnership agreement and the efforts of the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform in implementing the official character of Amazighe within State institutions and their bodies. 

Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami also noted that this agreement will consolidate the use of Amazighe as an official language in the House of Representatives and support the simultaneous interpretation of plenary sittings, adding that it will also enable the implementation of the provisions of the Organic Law on implementing the official character of Amazighe. The Speaker of the House stated that the next step in this important project will be to expand the scope of Amazighe's usage in the proceedings of the House. 

The agreement concluded between the two parties is a framework for partnership and cooperation to implement the Government program of implementing the official character of Amazighe and the plan adopted by the House of Representatives to integrate said language in its proceedings.
