The delegation of the House of Representatives took part in the parliamentary meeting organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union on “Gender-sensitive parliaments: Advancing gender equality to end poverty.”
On this occasion, Rep. Latifa Chrif, head of the delegation, shed light on the progress achieved by the Kingdom of Morocco in women's empowerment and the advancement of their conditions under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist him, the first advocate for women's rights in Morocco. She also praised the efforts of the majority and opposition political parties in deepening the debate on the status of women to find practical and concrete solutions to the various problems and challenges that hinder their participation in political and public life.
In the same regard, the member of the National Parliamentary Representation within the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Rep. Khaddouj Slassi, noted that "the world witnesses major transformations and crises, such as the Covid-19 crisis, water stress emanating from climate change, as well as regional and international conflicts, whose victims are more likely to be women." In this regard, she noted that the consolidation of women's position within society is not a privilege to women but a means to score additional points in the sustainable development index and strengthen the economic growth of countries.
Rep. Khaddouj Slassi also highlighted the experience of the Social State that the Kingdom of Morocco is working on. In this respect, she noted that considering women's empowerment when elaborating public policies and government programs has become a pressing necessity, given women's central position and role in society.
The Moroccan Representative also praised the Program for Girls' Schooling, adopted by the Moroccan Ministry of Education. In this context, she underscored that the number of girls in primary schools equals the number of boys, which might contribute to guaranteeing the attendance of girls in middle schools and, hence, solving the issue of underage marriage. She also shed light on the significant achievements of the Kingdom of Morocco in fighting illiteracy among women, generalizing social protection, and providing direct financial aid to families, given that women look after many families.
The Moroccan parliamentary delegation also participated in other meetings, namely the meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie and the one organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union on "Equal participation and leadership for a more peaceful world," and other activities.
