Speakers of the Moroccan and Yemeni Houses of Representatives Hold Bilateral Talks and Conclude Memorandum of Understanding

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami held talks on Monday, January 16, 2023, at the seat of the House in Rabat, with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Yemen, Hon. Sultan Saeed Al-Barkani, currently on an official visit to our country at the head of an important delegation.

During the meeting, attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen to Rabat, H.E. Azzeddine Saeed Al-Asbahi, the two parties discussed the means to consolidate cooperation between the legislative institutions of the two countries and concluded a Memorandum of Understanding in this regard.

On occasion, the Speaker of the Yemeni House of Representatives expressed his pride in the distinguished historical ties linking the two countries and their peoples. In the same respect, he reiterated the constant position of the Republic of Yemen in favor of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom and its sovereignty over its entire territory.

Besides, Hon. Sultan Saeed Al-Barkani congratulated the Moroccan National Football Team for their outstanding results at Qatar's 2022 FIFA World Cup. In this regard, he noted, "the Moroccan National Football Team's determination reflects the people's determination for success and progress. The victory of the Atlas Lions made all Arabs and Africans proud."

For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami stressed the depth of the friendship and brotherhood bonds linking the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Yemen. In the same vein, he noted the mutual support and coordination between the Moroccan House of Representatives and its Yemeni counterpart in the various regional and international parliamentary fora.

Moreover, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami commended the position of the Republic of Yemen in support of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, adding that the Kingdom of Morocco, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah glorify and assist him, always supports the international legitimacy and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States.

On the verge of their meeting, the Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives and the Speaker of the Yemeni House of Representatives concluded a Memorandum of Understanding. The latter exhibits the mutual desire to contribute to the consolidation and solidification of the friendship ties between the Moroccan and Yemeni peoples and the determination of the two parties to reinforce and expand the areas of bilateral parliamentary cooperation.

The two parties shall contribute, according to the Memorandum of Understanding, and each in their area of competence, to developing the political, economic, cultural, and scientific links uniting the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Yemen. They shall also work, each in their area of competence, on reinforcing parliamentary cooperation through continuous dialogue and consultation as part of the shared interests of both countries.

Besides, the two parties shall exchange information regarding the legislative action and the best practices in enacting laws, through official publications and documents of shared interest, under the laws of each country. The two parties shall also work on encouraging the exchange of visits at the level of the Speakership of both Houses and promoting interaction between their standing committees and parliamentary friendship groups in all areas, with a view to reinforcing the relations between the two parties.

Per the Memorandum of Understanding, the two parties shall exchange views on the questions of mutual interest in international fora, and promote cooperation between the Administrations of both Houses to exchange practical experiences and expertise.
