Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami received on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at the House, the Speaker of the Senate of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mr. Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Razek, and the delegation accompanying him, currently on a working visit to the Kingdom of Morocco.
At the onset of the meeting, Mr. Rachid Talbi El Alami welcomed Mr. Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Razek and his delegation, expressing his pride at this visit, which will be an entry to further consolidation of the ties linking the legislative institutions of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Arab Republic of Egypt. In the meantime, he praised the existing relations between the Moroccan House of Representatives and its counterpart in the Arab Republic of Egypt at the bilateral and multilateral levels and applauded the fruitful coordination in various international and regional parliamentary fora.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives seized this opportunity to extend, through the Speaker of the Egyptian Senate, his appreciation and consideration to the Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives, stressing that he had proposed that the House of Representatives of the Arab Republic of Egypt join the Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean, which will be chaired by the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco.
During their talks, Mr. Talbi El Alami recalled the achievements made by the Moroccan House of Representatives during the last decade, which enabled it to occupy a distinguished position within continental, regional and international parliamentary assemblies and organizations. The Speaker of the House lauded the outstanding relations between the two countries, stressing that Rabat and Cairo have a deeply rooted common history. They both enjoy rich experiences to share and benefit from. In the same vein, he pointed out that the Moroccan House of Representatives is open to all initiatives to advance the parliamentary relations between the two countries further to concretize the common historical asset and to high priority issues on the parliamentary bilateral, continental and international agenda.
For his part, Speaker of the Senate of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Razek expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Kingdom of Morocco for the warm reception and hospitality, noting that his participation in the 11th Congress of the Association of Senates, Shura and Equivalent Councils in Africa and the Arab World and the Forum for Parliamentary Dialogue with Senates and Equivalent Councils of Latin America and the Caribbean, hosted, under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist him, by the House of Councilors on March 3-5, represents the start of a new phase in bilateral and multilateral parliamentary relations.
The Speaker of the Egyptian Senate noted that parliamentary cooperation and coordination are crucial due to the deep-rooted relations between the two countries and the convergence of views on several questions of common interest, stressing that the Kingdom of Morocco and the Arab Republic of Egypt have a long-standing civilization.
In a statement to the press following his talks with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Razek said, "We have exchanged views and visions, which are more than identical, and we feel a firm and sincere desire to make great strides in the coming period on the path of full cooperation between our two countries… We should pick up pace in this respect because we have no room for complacency or anything else. Therefore, we are looking to hold prompt meetings soon to seek our common path forward and achieve the goals set by our countries, the Kingdom of Morocco and the Arab Republic of Egypt."
It is worth mentioning that the talks of Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami and Speaker of the Egyptian Senate Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Razek tackled several bilateral, regional and international parliamentary issues of common interest.
