Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, received on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at the House in Rabat, the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Hon. Duarte Pacheco, on the sidelines of his participation in the 10th Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace, taking place in Rabat and Dakhla on July 13-15, 2022.
During their talks, the two parties discussed the role of parliamentary diplomacy and the ties linking the House of Representatives with the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the geopolitical groups under it. The two parties also reviewed the bilateral and multilateral parliamentary agenda, the means of consolidating cooperation and exchanging experiences and expertise, given the exemplary parliamentary and diplomatic record the Kingdom of Morocco enjoys. Besides, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the IPU stressed the prominent position of parliaments and parliamentarians in disseminating the culture of tolerance, coexistence, dialogue, efficient and continuous communication, and the launch of initiatives to this end.
The President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Hon. Duarte Pacheco thanked the Speaker of the House of Representatives for this encounter. In the same regard, he lauded the role of the Parliament and the Kingdom of Morocco in supporting the efforts of global peace and security and their constant engagement in all the initiatives aimed at disseminating the culture of peace, dialogue, and tolerance. The IPU President also commended the convention of the 10th IPTP Session in Rabat and Dakhla, noting that this event attests to the accumulation achieved by the Kingdom of Morocco. Hon. Duarte Pacheco also reviewed the current challenges that face parliaments and parliamentarians, stating that the Union is about to implement an action plan that would consolidate its openness to new questions inscribed on the international parliamentary agenda, and would strengthen its regional and continental presence, and reinforce action and leading global parliamentary initiatives.
For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami expressed his esteem and pride in the participation of the IPU, through its President, in the 10th IPTP Session. In this respect, he shed light on the strong links between the Moroccan Parliament and the IPU. Such links have been strengthened during the last decade thanks to the efficient engagement of the Kingdom of Morocco in all the initiatives and activities of the Union to support joint parliamentary action, exchange expertise and experiences, contribute to the anti-terrorism efforts, repudiate extremism and hatred, promote tolerance, peace, and dialogue, and pave the way for constant dialogue channels at the bilateral and multilateral parliamentary levels.
