Speaker of the House of Representatives Receives President of African Union Administrative Tribunal and Members of the Technical Committee in Charge of Reviewing the Statute and Rules of Procedure of the Tribunal

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, received on Monday, November 28, 2022, in Rabat, the members of the African Union’s Technical Committee, led by the President of the Administrative Tribunal, Mr. Sylvester Salufu Mainga, currently on a working visit to the Kingdom of Morocco. 

The talks between the two parties focused on the relations linking the Kingdom of Morocco to the African Union and the enormous desire of the Kingdom to give new impetus to the Union's structures and development in Africa under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah glorify him. 

During the meeting, the Speaker of the House of Representatives gave an overview of the peculiarity of the Moroccan political and constitutional institutions and the Kingdom's parliamentary experience, as well as the relation of the House of Representatives to the other institutions and branches. In the same respect, the Speaker recalled the significant gains achieved by the Kingdom of Morocco in several areas regulated by the provisions of the 2011 Constitution, which has reinforced the separation of powers and their cooperation as a cornerstone in the Moroccan political system. 

For their part, the President of the African Union Administrative Tribunal, Mr. Sylvester Salufu Mainga, and the Technical Committee members expressed their gratitude to the Speaker of the House of Representatives for the meeting and the constructive interaction it featured, and commended his hospitality. Besides, the delegation noted that its visit to the Kingdom of Morocco is part of the talks and debates between African parties to review the Statute that regulates the work of the African Union Administrative Tribunal, since 1966, and its Rules of Procedure that were adopted in 1967. 

Additionally, the delegation praised the reforms undertaken by the Kingdom of Morocco under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah glorify him, stressing that their interest in the Moroccan experience, particularly at the legislative level, has grown bigger since the Kingdom’s return to the African Union. 

Mr. Sylvester Salufu Mainga and his entourage added that the African Union’s Technical Committee is finalizing a draft amendment that will be soon deposited for adoption following the modalities and procedures in force within the African Union. 

It should be noted that the Kingdom of Morocco has been a member of the African Union Administrative Tribunal since 2019, alongside Namibia and Mozambique.
