Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami received on Monday, March 7, 2022, at the House, a parliamentary delegation from the National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of the Congo headed by Rep. Colette Tshomba Ntundu, a deputy rapporteur in the Bureau of the Assembly and member of the Committee on Defense and Security.
At the onset of the reception, the Speaker of the House of Representatives lauded the good relations linking the Kingdom of Morocco and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which is one of the most prominent countries in Africa. In the same respect, he stressed the necessity to consolidate and fortify these bonds to address the challenges that face the two countries, especially regarding human and sustainable development, climate change, migration, and human rights and dignity.
Besides, Mr. Rachid Talbi El Alami gave a brief overview of the gains achieved by the Kingdom in the area of women's representation in the elected bodies, especially the Parliament. In this context, he noted that women form one-fourth of the members of the House in its current formation. He added that the Moroccan House of Representatives is willing to share its experience with other countries.
During this reception, the Speaker also requested from the head of the Congolese parliamentary delegation to extend a message to the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Hon. Christophe Mboso, on activating and giving new impetus to the African Parliament to find new standard solutions to the challenges Africa faces.
For her part, the head of the Congolese parliamentary delegation, Rep. Colette Tshomba Ntundu, thanked Mr. Rachid Talbi El Alami for the warm reception. She also noted that the parliamentary delegation's visit reflects the depth of the good historical ties linking the two brotherly countries for decades. The Congolese Parliamentarian also expressed her appreciation of the Moroccan experience in the area of women's representation, as she stated, "We will be working on the inclusion of positive discrimination in the future electoral code in coordination with the political actors in the Democratic Republic of the Congo."
Upon this meeting, Ms. Colette Tshomba Ntundu gave a copy of the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly of the DRC to the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The Congolese parliamentary delegation is performing a working visit to our country until March 11 and involves, in addition to Ms. Colette Tshomba Ntundu, Rep. Jolie Yama Nzalabar, Rep. Valentine Gamoto Mateyase, Rep. Odette Mwamba Banza and Rep. Patrick Mangay Munvunga.
