Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami received, on Monday, June 13, 2022 in Rabat, the Chairperson of the International Relations and Human Mobility Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Ecuador, Hon. Juan Fernando Flores, who is currently on a working visit to our country at the head of an important parliamentary delegation.
The meeting focused on issues related to the Kingdom's territorial integrity, parliamentary cooperation between the legislative institutions of the two countries, in addition to a number of issues of common concern, foremost among which are migration, terrorism, transnational crime and human trafficking.
At the outset of the meeting, Mr. Rachid Talbi El Alami stated that this visit offers an opportunity to inform the Ecuadorian parliamentary delegation of the achievements of our country in recent years, expressing his hope that it will also contribute to strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Turning to our territorial integrity, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami reiterated that the autonomy plan submitted by Morocco in 2007 is the only basis for a serious, realistic and sustainable political solution to the artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara. He further noted that the Ecuadorian delegation's visit to the southern provinces of the Kingdom will enable them to take a closer look at the development aspects and the volume of investment in these regions.
The Speaker of the House also highlighted the efforts made by the Kingdom in the field of migration; fight against terrorism, trafficking in humans, drugs and arms; and combating transnational crime. He added that Morocco and Ecuador are required to share experiences, address challenges and achieve co-development within the framework of South-South cooperation.
For his part, the Chairperson of the International Relations Committee of the National Assembly of Ecuador articulated his aspiration and that of the other members of the delegation representing the various political parties in the National Assembly to strengthen and deepen the relations of cooperation between the two countries. In the same vein, they called for the strengthening of diplomatic relations between Ecuador and Morocco and urged the need for the exchange of diplomatic missions between the two countries.
It should be noted that the Members of the delegation stated that the National Assembly of Ecuador is in the process of restructuring the Ecuadorian-Moroccan Parliamentary Friendship Group. In this respect, they gave an overview of the democratic and parliamentary evolution in the Republic of Ecuador.
