Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami received, on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at the seat of the House, the Chairperson of the External Relations Committee at the Chilean Senate, Mr. Jaime Quintana Leal, currently on a working visit to the Kingdom of Morocco.
During their meeting, the two parties discussed the means to consolidate parliamentary and economic cooperation between the two countries and several international questions of mutual concern.
On occasion, the Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the Chilean Senate noted that this visit aims to advance parliamentary and economic cooperation between the two countries, consolidate partnership and openness to other sectors, exchange experiences and expertise, and promote efficient parliamentary communication and continuous dialogue between the two legislative institutions.
For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives underscored that the visit reflects the depth of the friendship ties linking the Kingdom of Morocco and Chile. In the same respect, he highlighted the political and institutional development in the Kingdom, shedding light on the novelties brought by the 2011 Constitution, mainly concerning the separation of powers and the broad prerogatives entrusted to the House of Representatives in legislation, government control, and evaluation of public policies.
With regard to the Moroccan Sahara cause, the Speaker of the House commended the unwavering position of the Republic of Chile in favor of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom and the respect of its sovereignty over its territory. In the same respect, he praised the level of parliamentary cooperation between the legislative institutions of the two countries, stressing the imperative of exchanging experiences and expertise between them.
The reception by the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the Chilean Senate was also an opportunity to exchange views on the importance of bilateral and multilateral parliamentary diplomacy and to discuss several regional and international questions of mutual parliamentary concern.
