Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi Alami received on Thursday, December 9, 2021, the Ambassador of the United Mexican States to the Kingdom of Morocco, Mabel Gómez Oliver.
At the outset of the meeting, the Ambassador thanked the Speaker of the House for his warm welcome and congratulated him for his election to the Speakership of the House and the trust of the absolute majority of its members. Then, the Ambassador stressed the importance of the Mexico-Morocco parliamentary ties and the necessity for its promotion in the areas of mutual interest like migration, investment, agriculture, and culture. She also noted the importance of the Morocco-Mexico parliamentary cooperation as an entry to economic cooperation. Hence, adds the Mexican diplomat, "we must advance the bilateral and multilateral parliamentary ties and coordinate at the various regional and international parliamentary fora."
Ms. Gómez Oliver reiterated her country's support for the efforts of the United Nations and its Secretary-General's Personal Envoy into finding a pacific, just, sustainable and agreed-upon solution regarding the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco. Furthermore, the Mexican Ambassador noted that creating adequate atmospheres for the Morocco-Mexico parliamentary dialogue is necessary to clarify views and positions. In the same respect, she added that the bilateral parliamentary ties linking the two countries had advanced significantly in the latest years, which was consolidated by the accession of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Morocco as an observing member to several regional parliamentary fora, associations and unions in Latin America and the Caribbean.
For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives thanked the Ambassador for the visit. He also noted that the House is open to all initiatives for developing its parliamentary relations with the United Mexican States, which he previously visited, to advance the ties linking the two countries to higher levels that reflect the shared historical and human heritage and covers the prominent bilateral and multilateral parliamentary issues like migration, renewable energies, digital transition and the economic, commercial and cultural cooperation.
Mr. Rachid Talbi Alami recalled the achievements of the Moroccan House of Representatives in the last decade, which enabled it to occupy a distinguished position within several regional and international parliamentary organizations and fora. The Speaker also stressed the necessity of advancing the Morocco-Mexico parliamentary ties, exchanging experiences and expertise and considering the creation of Africa-Latin America parliamentary forum as a space for South-South parliamentary dialogue. The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss and exchange views on the regional and international of mutual concern.
