Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami received on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at the House, H.E. Simon Martin, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Rabat.
At the outset of the meeting, the UK Ambassador congratulated Mr. Rachid Talbi El Alami on his election to the Speakership of the House of Representatives. In this respect, he commended the historical relations between the two Kingdoms, which, according to him, are in continuous progress and witnessing distinguished cooperation in numerous fields. He added, "We have common interests, and we share the same values, namely those associated with respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States."
H.E. Simon Martin noted with satisfaction the Morocco-UK parliamentary relations and the distinguished partnership that brings together the House of Representatives and the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD). In the same context, he stated that the UK House of Commons had created the Morocco-UK Parliamentary Friendship Group, whose members look forward to working together with their counterparts in the House of Representatives in a way that contributes to the consolidation of rapprochement between the two countries.
For his part, Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami hailed the Morocco-UK parliamentary relations and the partnership program with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, highlighting the importance of exchanging experiences and expertise in parliamentary work. Besides, the Speaker of the House of Representatives expressed a strong will to give new impetus to the work of the Parliamentary Friendship Group in the two countries, notably given the existence of "many issues of great importance to both sides, such as security and counter-terrorism, trade, migration and climate change."
In the same vein, the Speaker of the House stressed that the Kingdom of Morocco has always been and remains a pole of peace and stability. In this context, he added that the legislative institution contributes at the parliamentary level to the consolidation of the values of democracy, coexistence, dialogue and acceptance of the Other. In addition, he presented an overview of the "Children's Parliament" and the various initiatives aimed at opening up to youth, women and all components of the Moroccan society.
In addition, Mr. Rachid Talbi El Alami extended an invitation to the Speaker of the UK House of Commons to perform a working visit to Morocco, which will certainly offer an opportunity to discuss ways to advance bilateral parliamentary relations and cooperation in various areas of common interest.
