Speaker of the House of Representatives Receives the Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Rabat

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami, received on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at the House, the Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to the Kingdom on Morocco, Mr. Klaus KÖGELER.

During this meeting, the two sides applauded the distinguished friendship relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Austria. In addition, they expressed their joint willingness to advance cooperation between the two legislative institutions.

On this occasion, the Ambassador of the Republic of Austria emphasized that his country considers Morocco as a distinguished partner at the Arab and African levels. Besides, he stressed the important role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening rapprochement between the two countries and providing a clear perspective for several issues of common interest.

In the same vein, the Ambassador extended a formal invitation from the President of the Austrian Parliament to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami, to conduct a business visit to the Republic of Austria. This visit shall provide an opportunity to explore ways to anchor cooperation between the legislative institutions of the two countries. In the same respect, the Ambassador informed the Speaker of the House of Representatives about the creation, by the Austrian Parliament, of a parliamentary friendship group specific to the North African region.

For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives welcomed the invitation and expressed his wish to receive the President of the Austrian Parliament to the Kingdom of Morocco. Taking this opportunity, the Speaker of the House informed the Austrian Diplomat about the initiation of procedures to create the Morocco-Austria parliamentary friendship group. He also added that the October Legislative Session witnessed intensive activities and was the first legislative session of the House of Representatives following the recent legislative elections.

Lastly, Mr. Rachid Talbi El Alami reiterated that Morocco and Austria face common challenges related to security, peace and stability in Europe, Africa and the Mediterranean region, added to climate change, migration and other issues of the highest importance. Thus, "we need more coordination, cooperation and mutual support." He stated.
