Speaker of the House of Representatives Receives Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium

Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi Alami received on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to the Kingdom of Morocco, Véronique Petit.

At the onset of the meeting, the Belgian Ambassador congratulated Mr. Rachid Talbi Alami on his election to the Speakership of the House and commended the dynamism shown by the House and its parliamentary diplomacy. Meanwhile, she lauded the good relations between Rabat and Brussels in the various economic, commercial, industrial and cultural areas and expressed her great esteem to the wisdom of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist him, and to his directives and actions to mitigate the repercussions of Covid-19.

The Belgian Ambassador noted that the international and continental situations, added to the changes happening around the globe, require stronger partnerships, mainly through openness to new spaces and stronger collaboration with countries that have excellent ties with the Kingdom of Belgium, foremost among which is the Kingdom of Morocco. This can be achieved by exchanging ideas and opening debates on priority issues, such as climate change, renewable energies, digital transition, multilingualism, multiculturalism, migration and decentralization. Therein lies the significant role of parliaments and cooperation between them to exchange expertise and share experiences, added the Belgian Ambassador.

For his part, Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi Alami expressed his thanks to the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Rabat, Véronique Petit. He also commended the strong and distinguished relations between Morocco and Belgium and its entrenched position towards the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and its defense of the Kingdom’s high interests in the different continental and international fora.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives lauded the quality of Morocco-Belgium parliamentary relations. On that point, he noted that throughout the recent legislative mandates, the Morocco-Belgium parliamentary friendship group had distinguished itself by its parliamentary diplomatic dynamism. Moreover, Mr. Rachid Talbi Alami reiterated the fact that the House of Representatives is open to all constructive initiatives and parliamentary questions of mutual interest, namely decentralization, climate change, renewable energies, technological development, digitalization and pharmaceutical industries.

Besides, Mr. Rachid Talbi Alami emphasized that the House of Representatives looks forward to institutionalizing the Morocco-Belgium parliamentary relations further and learning from the best practices at the bilateral and multilateral levels, through the convergence of views and positions on common parliamentary questions and the creation of new spaces for collaboration and coordination.
