Speaker of the House of Representatives Meets Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Republic of Colombia

Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi Alami held talks on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at the House, with Marta Lucia Ramirez, the Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Republic of Colombia, currently on an official visit to our country.

In the beginning, Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi Alami expressed gratitude and esteem for the Colombian position in favor of the Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara and the autonomy proposal as a realistic and definitive solution to the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara. He also lauded the decision of Colombia to extend the consular jurisdiction of its Embassy in the Kingdom to include the Moroccan Sahara. In the same respect, the Speaker commended the positions of the Colombian Congress in favor of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives noted that the Kingdom of Morocco and Colombia share the same values of democracy, human rights and human development and aspire to build a better future. On the same occasion, he shed light on the profound reforms led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI. On this matter, he noted specifically the experience of the Equity and Reconciliation Commission and the leadership of the Kingdom in renewable energies, migration management and addressing climate change. The Speaker also highlighted the economic, agricultural and social development in our country.

​​Mr. Rachid Talbi Alami confirmed that Morocco has successfully minimized the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic thanks to the proactive measures led by His Majesty the King. He further noted that Morocco strives to achieve collective immunity, adding that achieving economic recovery and consolidating social protection represent the top priority for the next phase.

For her part, the Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Colombia, Ms. Marta Lucia Ramirez, commended the progress achieved by Morocco in all sectors, stating, "Morocco, under the leadership of his Majesty the King, represents a model for emerging economies. I would also like to congratulate you on the democratic atmosphere that reigned during the recent elections." Moreover, the Colombian Official affirmed that Morocco and Colombia have strong relations and that "there are numerous opportunities for economic and agricultural cooperation that should be seized to serve the common interest of the two countries."

The Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Colombia reiterated her country's support to the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, and the Autonomy Proposal pledged by Morocco as a democratic solution to the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara. In this respect, she stressed that Colombia commits to international legitimacy and thereby does not recognize fictitious entities.

On this occasion, Marta Lucia Ramirez gave an overview of Colombia's democratic, economic and social reforms, shedding light on its efforts to strengthen security and fight crime and drug trafficking. She also highlighted the efforts to promote women's conditions and human rights, achieve sustainable development and mitigate the impacts of Covid-19.
