Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami took part in talks with members of the delegations of the Parliaments that are members of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA). The Speaker of the House also met with the delegations participating in AIPA’s 43rd General Assembly, held on November 20-25 in the Kingdom of Cambodia, under the theme: “Advancing Together for a Sustainable, Inclusive and Resilient ASEAN.”
In the panel devoted to the Kingdom of Morocco, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami gave an overview of the Moroccan experience in security, peace, renewable energies, and digital transition, in addition to the Kingdom's management of the economic, social, and health repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah glorify him.
During the parliamentary debate, the parliamentarians of AIPA’s member States, namely Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, the Philippines, Brunei, and Laos, commended the Kingdom's sound management of the COVID-19 crisis. In the same respect, they praised the efforts deployed by the Kingdom in human and sustainable development, clean energies, and the consolidation of world peace, security, and coexistence.
During the same panel, the Speaker of the House presented the prerogatives of the Moroccan Parliament, through its two Houses, and the roles it plays in legislation, government control, and public policy evaluation. The Speaker also informed the participants of the Moroccan model in the various international parliamentary fora.
On the sidelines of AIPA’s General Assembly, the Speaker of the House of Representatives held bilateral talks with the Speakers and heads of delegations participating in the Assembly, including Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Azerbaijan, and the Kingdom of Norway, as the latter enjoys the status of observer member within AIPA.
The bilateral talks covered the consolidation of relations, exchange of expertise, mutual benefit from experiences, especially at the parliamentary level, and coordination to serve the development and promote peace and security, which cannot be achieved without accepting difference and embracing dialogue as the practical and sustainable form of communication.
During the talks, respective Speakers and heads of parliamentary delegations noted the peculiar importance their countries give to their relations with the Kingdom of Morocco and commended the role of parliaments in this respect, as the Kingdom of Morocco is the only Arab and African country that has a mechanism of parliamentary cooperation with the AIPA. On the same occasion, they also underscored their aspiration to advance bilateral cooperation towards higher levels.
For his part, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami praised the quality of parliamentary cooperation, which has been solidified thanks to the status of observer member that the House of Representatives enjoys within the Assembly and the intense and constructive bilateral exchange and cooperation linking the House of Representatives with several permanent and observer member States.
In the same regard, he stressed the readiness of the House of Representatives to reinforce communication between the Assembly's Parliaments and those of African and Arab States to serve development in all its economic, social, and cultural aspects. The Speaker added that the Kingdom of Morocco now occupies a distinguished position at the African, Arab, and international levels and is a role model in several areas that inspires other world countries.
The bilateral meetings also featured agreement with the Speakers and heads of parliamentary delegations taking part in AIPA’s General Assembly on the consolidation of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, in addition to the intensification of visits exchange between delegations of the two sides on all levels.
The meetings also involved Rep. Ahmed Touizi, Chairperson of the Group of Authenticity and Modernity, and Mustapha Tarfia, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Thailand.
