Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami held talks on Monday, January 9, 2023, at the seat of the House in Rabat, with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Malawi, Hon. Catherine Gotani Hara, currently on a working visit to the Kingdom of Morocco at the head of a prominent parliamentary delegation.
During their talks, the two parties stressed the importance of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries in addressing the common challenges. They also expressed their strong will to reinforce parliamentary cooperation between the two legislative institutions and agreed on the conclusion of a memorandum of understanding on priority cooperation areas and projects.
At the onset of the meeting, the Speaker of the House of Representatives welcomed the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Malawi and her entourage. In the same respect, he commended the position of the Republic of Malawi in favor of the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over its entire territory and its decision of opening a Consulate in Laayoune.
On the same occasion, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami shed light on the experience of the Kingdom of Morocco in the agricultural field, limiting the impacts of climate change, rationalizing water usage, and adopting green and renewable energies. In the same context, he recalled the strategic goals set by the Kingdom in this area under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah glorify and assist him.
For her part, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Malawi commended the support of the Kingdom of Morocco to her country with regard to agricultural fertilizers, noting their major importance and positive impact on Malawian farmers. Hon. Catherine Gotani Hara also noted that her visit at the head of a parliamentary delegation to the Kingdom aims to reinforce parliamentary cooperation and to explore the achievements of the Kingdom of Morocco in several areas, namely agriculture, energy, environment, education, health, and youth. In the same respect, she affirmed that the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Malawi face common challenges and must exchange experiences and expertise and benefit from each other.
Besides, Hon. Catherine Gotani Hara seized the opportunity to congratulate the Moroccan National Football Team for reaching the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, noting that “they made all Africa proud of their achievement.”
The talks between the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Malawi were also a chance to discuss several important questions like digitalization, migration, and the means to advance bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
The talks were also attended by the Chairperson of the Morocco-Malawi Parliamentary Friendship Group at the House of Representatives, Rep. Aziz El Fidi, and from the Malawian National Assembly: MP. Jason Isaac Kaneka, MP. Francesca Theula Masamba, MP. Arnold William Kadzanja, MP. Fidson Chisesele, and MP. Bauden Mtonga.
