Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami held talks on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at the seat of the Azeri National Assembly in Baku, with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, Hon. Sahiba Gafarova, in the presence of the Ambassador of His Majesty, H.E. Adil Embarch.
During the talks, the two parties commended the good quality of the bilateral and multilateral parliamentary ties and stressed the importance of reinforcing, fostering, and supporting them through continuous communication between the two legislative institutions and the exchange of experiences and expertise. The Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Speaker of the Azeri National Assembly also expressed their appreciation and pride in the quality of the relations linking the two countries on the basis of the mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and continuous support in the various regional and international fora.
On occasion, the Speaker of the Azeri National Assembly, Hon. Sahiba Gafarova, thanked the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, for his participation in the Extraordinary Session of the Assembly in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev, the Azeri leader and founder of modern Azerbaijan. In the same respect, the Azeri Speaker expressed her appreciation for the level of the Azeri-Moroccan parliamentary ties. Besides, she underscored the importance of consolidating them and exchanging experiences and expertise between the two legislative institutions, given the central position of parliaments in modern democracies. Moreover, Hon. Sahiba Gafarova noted that her country grants special importance to advancing its relations with the Kingdom of Morocco, considering the shared values and concerns between the two countries that parliaments and parliamentary diplomacy must enrich and develop, particularly at the cultural, economic, and political levels.
During the same meeting, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan commended the active participation of the Kingdom of Morocco in the parliamentary action of the Non-Aligned Movement, which is a network established at the initiative of the President of Azerbaijan, H.E. Ilham Aliyev. In the same vein, she mentioned the prominent and positive impact of parliamentary relations in advancing ties between the two countries and stressed the importance of cooperation between the friendship groups and the joint activities and initiatives between the two parliaments within international parliamentary organizations.
For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, thanked Hon. Sahiba Gafarova for the invitation and expressed his appreciation of the major role of Heydar Aliyev and his policies in favor of the Azeri State and its people, which is the same approach pursued by the current President, H.E. Ilham Aliyev, thus enabling the Republic of Azerbaijan to make important achievements and gains in several fields.
Besides, the Speaker of the House gave a brief overview of the major projects launched by the Kingdom of Morocco under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God glorify him. He also shed light on the Moroccan parliamentary experience and its peculiarities, noting the importance of strengthening dialogue, consultation, and communication between the House of Representatives and the Azeri National Assembly and coordinating in the different regional, continental, and international parliamentary fora.
The Speaker of the House also noted the good quality of the bilateral and multilateral parliamentary ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Azerbaijan, adding that they are based on the mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity and continuous support in regional and international parliamentary fora. On the same occasion, the Speaker expressed his esteem and gratitude to the Republic of Azerbaijan for its position in favor of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco.
Upon the meeting, the Speaker of the House invited his Azeri counterpart to take part in the Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue, to be held in Marrakesh next June.
