Speaker of the House of Representatives Holds Talks with Speaker of the Canadian Senate

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami received on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at the seat of the House in Rabat, the Speaker of the Canadian Senate, Hon. George J. Furey, currently on a working visit to our country at the head of an important parliamentary delegation.

 

During the meeting, the two parties commended the strong bonds linking the Kingdom of Morocco and Canada. They also expressed their satisfaction with the dynamism marking the parliamentary relations between the two countries and their strong will to advance cooperation between the two legislative institutions towards new and diverse horizons.

 

On the same occasion, the Speaker of the Canadian Senate noted that the Kingdom of Morocco and Canada share the same values of human rights and the entrenchment of the Rule of Law. He also added that his visit, alongside his entourage, to the Kingdom of Morocco is part of reinforcing the ties linking the two countries.

 

In the same respect, Hon. George J. Furey stressed the importance the Canadian Senate grants to cooperation with the Moroccan Parliament and highlighted the role of the Morocco-Canada Parliamentary Friendship Groups in strengthening consultation and coordination in the areas of mutual parliamentary interest. Moreover, he lauded the remarkable contribution of the Moroccan community to the various development aspects within Canadian society.

 

For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives welcomed the Speaker of the Canadian Senate and his entourage. The Speaker also noted that the Kingdom of Morocco and Canada entertain strong relations based on shared values and mutual respect. In the same vein, he added that the Kingdom of Morocco is Canada's gate towards Africa given its being a pole of stability and development in the region and considering its leadership at the regional and continental levels.

 

Besides, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami shed light on the major structural projects launched by the Kingdom of Morocco under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God glorify him, noting particularly the transition towards clean energies and green economy, as well as the leap characterizing agriculture and industry. The Speaker also highlighted the importance given to the human capital through prioritizing the reform in education, the development of the healthcare system, the promotion of holistic development, and the universalization of social protection.

 

The meeting was attended by Rep. Mohamed Chrourou, the Chairperson of the Morocco-Canada Parliamentary Friendship Group at the House of Representatives, and from the Canadian side: Sen. Fabian Manning, Sen. Mary Coyle, and Sen. Mohamed-Iqbal Ravalia.
