Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami received on Monday, May 09, 2022, at the House, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), Mr. Gennaro Migliore, currently on a working visit to our country at the head of an important delegation comprising representatives of the parliaments of PAM member States.
During this meeting, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, Mr. Gennaro Migliore stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in addressing challenges and consolidating cooperation between the Mediterranean countries in vital areas, such as security, renewable energies, water, and climate change.
Mr. Gennaro Migliore noted that given its geostrategic position, and political and diplomatic role at the regional and international levels, the Kingdom of Morocco is the locomotive of integration between both sides of the Mediterranean. He also added that it is a key player in forming a prosperous Mediterranean area marked with security, stability and development.
For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives underscored the role of Mediterranean parliaments in addressing the challenges arising in the region. In this respect, he highlighted the priorities that must be dealt with, particularly security, food, stability, trending towards a green economy, and addressing the main causes behind migration.
Mr. Rachid Talbi El Alami called for intensifying consultation with the parliaments of the Sahelo-Saharan countries, and consolidating coordination between South countries. In the same context, he expressed the readiness of the Moroccan House of Representatives to contribute actively to the success of the initiatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean in order to strengthen cooperation and solidarity between the various Mediterranean countries.
It should be noted that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) is an international organization that was established in 2005 by the national parliaments of Euro-Mediterranean countries. The Assembly aims to establish political, economic and social cooperation between the member States to find joint solutions to the challenges that face the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions. It also intends to create a space for peace, dialogue and prosperity.
