Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami received on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at the House, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Robert Oliphant, and his entourage, mainly composed of the MP. Marc Dalton and the Canadian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco, Ms. Nell Stewart.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister, and the latter's entourage lauded the distinguished Morocco-Canada ties, particularly at the parliamentary level. In this respect, they noted that said ties had been consolidated in the recent years through cooperation agreements, exchange of visits, and the consolidation of communication and coordination channels on questions of mutual concern, such as migration, security, fight against terrorism, digital transition, climate change, protection of the environment, green economy, commercial exchange, investment, and tourism. The two sides also stressed the prominent role of the two legislative institutions and parliamentarians in strengthening the relations linking the two countries through constant bilateral and multilateral coordination and consultation.
The talks between the Moroccan and Canadian officials focused on the outstanding parliamentary experience of the two countries. In this vein, Mr. Rachid Talbi El Alami shed light on the leading experience of the Kingdom in various areas, particularly its management of COVID-19. The two sides also discussed cooperation between the two countries' parliaments, which has lately covered several questions, such as public policies, financial efficiency, budget analysis, and the management of petitions and motions. The Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Parliamentary Secretary to the Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister expressed their desire to intensify the existing cooperation through friendship groups, the Morocco-Quebec Joint Parliamentary Committee, and the regional and international parliamentary unions.
The reception by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Rachid Talbi El Alami, of the Parliamentary Secretary to the Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Robert Oliphant, was also an opportunity to discuss and exchange views on several questions inscribed as priorities on the national and international parliamentary agenda.
