Speaker of the House of Representatives Holds Talks with High-Level Peruvian Parliamentary Delegation…Peruvian Congress Creates Group to Support the Autonomy Proposal

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, received on Monday, May 29, 2023, at the seat of the House in Rabat, a high-level parliamentary delegation headed by Mr. Ernesto Bustamante Donayre, the Chairperson of the Peru-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group and the Group to Support the Moroccan Proposal for Autonomy at the Peruvian Congress.

The Peruvian delegation, on a working visit to our country that covers the Southern provinces of the Kingdom, involves the members of the Peru-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group: Ms. Maria Del Carmen Alva Prieto, Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee and former Speaker of the Congress; Mr. José Ernesto Cueto Aservi, Chairperson of the Intelligence Services Committee; Ms. Rosangela Andrea Barbaran Reyes, Chairperson of the Committee on Economy, Finance, Banking, and Financial Intelligence; and Ms. Yessica Rosselli Amuruz Dulanto, Chairperson of the Committees in charge of conducting legal research and studies.

During the meeting, the Chairperson of the Peru-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group, Mr. Ernesto Bustamante Donayre, announced the creation of a Parliamentary Group within the Peruvian Congress to support the autonomy initiative in the southern provinces of the Kingdom of Morocco as the "only credible political solution to the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara." He also noted that the visit is part of the Group's work on preparing a report on the autonomy proposal. The report will be presented before the Congress and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In their discussion with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the members of the Peruvian parliamentary delegation noted that the autonomy proposal presented by the Kingdom of Morocco aligns with international legitimacy and justice. They also underscored the importance of highlighting the true position of the Peruvian people regarding this proposal beyond any ideological bidding.

For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, thanked the members of the Peruvian Congress for their support of the autonomy proposal. On the same occasion, he gave an overview of the history and efforts of the Kingdom of Morocco to complement its territorial integrity. Besides, the Speaker of the House shed light on the major project and development achievements marking the Southern provinces under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God glorify him.

The meeting featured the presence of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Peru, H.E. Amin Chaoudri, and the Chairperson of the Morocco-Peru Parliamentary Friendship Group, Rep. Mostafa Brahimi.
