Speaker of the House of Representatives Holds Talks with Chairperson of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Migration at Italian Senate

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, received on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at the House in Rabat, the Chairperson of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Migration at the Italian Senate, Sen. Stefania Gabriella Anastasia Craxi, currently on a working visit to the Kingdom of Morocco from July 18 to 20.

The two parties focused on the Moroccan-Italian parliamentary ties, which have been consolidated during the last decade through twinning and cooperation programs, the exchange of experiences and expertise, reinforcement of the role of the parliamentary friendship groups, bilateral and multilateral parliamentary coordination and cooperation, exchange of visits, creation of innovated spaces for continuous dialogue like a parliamentary forum, and the clarification of views and positions, with full respect to the international legality and States’ sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Furthermore, the Moroccan-Italian parliamentary links have also been strengthened through the promotion of sustainable consultation regarding several questions of mutual interest like migration, the fight against terrorism and hate speech, and other challenges that have dominated parliamentary action recently, such as health, climate change, food and water security, renewable energies and digital transformation.

Sen. Stefania Gabriella Anastasia Craxi lauded the Moroccan-Italian parliamentary relations and expressed her pride in the initiatives of the Kingdom of Morocco at the national and international scenes. The Italian Senator also commended Rabat's wise and pioneering management of several challenges and crises. The Chairperson of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Migration at the Italian Senate recalled the excellent quality of relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Italy at all levels, which are based on solid friendship and shared respect, affirming that Rome aspires to advance its ties with Rabat in cultural and university cooperation, and renewable energies.

For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives commended the excellent relations uniting the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Italy. In the same respect, he showed appreciation of the commitment of Rome to international legality and its defense of the vital interests of Rabat within and outside Europe and in various international fora. The Speaker also stressed the central and strategic role of the Kingdom of Morocco in consolidating regional and global security and stability, noting the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in solidifying relations and enhancing coordination. Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami recalled the various meetings held in the recent period with Italian parliamentarians to discuss multiple questions of mutual interest and create new spaces for thinking, debate, dialogue, and parliamentary coordination.

It should be noted that the Speaker of the House of Representatives held talks, earlier in June, with an Italian parliamentary delegation from the Parliamentary Group to Support the Autonomy Proposal in the Moroccan Sahara. Other discussions were also held between the Foreign Affairs Committees at the Moroccan and Italian Houses of Representatives. Such meetings shall contribute to consolidating the sustainability of bilateral and multilateral parliamentary communication and consultation regarding questions of mutual interest.
