Speaker of the House of Representatives Holds Talks with Chairperson and Members of the Arab Human Rights Committee

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami received, on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at the seat of the House in Rabat, the President of the Arab Human Rights Committee at the League of Arab States, Mr. Jaber Al Marri, and his entourage, on the sidelines of their participation in the 51st Ordinary Session of the Arab Permanent Committee on Human Rights in Skhirat.

At the onset of the meeting, Mr. Jaber Al Marri thanked the Speaker of the House of Representatives for the warm welcome. After that, he gave an overview of the Arab Human Rights Committee and its prerogatives, noting that his visit alongside his entourage and their institutional talks are part of leading an open, constructive debate on the Arab Human Rights Charter. He also noted that the hosting by the Kingdom of Morocco of the Session of the Arab Permanent Committee on Human Rights reflects its concern and interest in human rights at the national, regional, and international levels. Besides, Mr. Jaber Al Marri also noted that his talks with the Speaker of the House of Representatives fall under the same framework to get a closer look at the efforts of the Kingdom in this area.

For his part, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami thanked Mr. Jaber Al Marri and his entourage for their visit. Moreover, he shed light on the evolution and gains achieved by the Kingdom of Morocco in the area of human rights and freedoms during the last two decades under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God glorify him. The Speaker of the House also highlighted the legislative procedure and the roles and prerogatives of the House of Representatives and its various organs in reinforcing and protecting human rights at the level of legislation, government control, public policy evaluation, and the examination and discussion of the reports of governance bodies under constitutional regulations.

Additionally, Mr. Talbi El Alami recalled the achievements of the House of Representatives in the last decade, which have enabled it to occupy a privileged position within several continental, regional, and international parliamentary bodies and organizations. In the same vein, he expressed the House's will to pursue continuous dialogue and communication with the various institutions, bodies, and committees and share its experience with them in order to advance mutual benefit in the area of human rights.
