Speaker of the House of Representatives Holds Talks with British Minister of State for Foreign Affairs for South and Central Asia, North Africa, the UN and the Commonwealth

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, held talks on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at the seat of the House, with Lord Ahmad Tariq, the British Minister of State for Foreign Affairs for South and Central Asia, North Africa, the UN and the Commonwealth, currently on a working visit to the Kingdom of Morocco on July 25-27, to consolidate the Morocco-UK partnership.

The talks between the two parties, attended by the UK Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco, H.E. Simon Martin, discussed the long-standing historical and cultural ties linking the two countries. The two parties also discussed means to develop parliamentary cooperation links between the legislative institutions of the two countries.

During the meeting, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami lauded the distinguished relations between the two Kingdoms and the fruitful cooperation between their respective parliaments. He also commended the excellent partnership linking the House of Representatives with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, which enabled the exchange of experiences and expertise between the legislative institutions of the two countries in several parliamentary areas.

On the same occasion, the Speaker of the House of Representatives gave a brief overview of the competencies and formation of the House of Representatives and the advancement in the parliamentary practice in our country and expressed his strong will to reinforce cooperation bonds with the British Parliament. In the same vein, he reiterated his invitation to the Speaker of the British House of Commons to perform a working visit to our country to seek new ways of strengthening bilateral cooperation.

For his part, Lord Ahmad Tariq, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs for South and Central Asia, North Africa, the UN and the Commonwealth, praised the continuous cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United Kingdom in all areas, noting specifically economic and commercial exchange, renewable energies, green economy, health, education, investment, and at the level of Africa. In the same regard, he noted, "We entertain strong relations and cooperation on a high level."

The British Minister of State, Lord Ahmad Tariq, hailed the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God aid him, in advancing the conditions of women and enhancing gender equality. He also expressed his pride of the development of the Moroccan parliamentary experience and the crucial roles the House of Representatives plays in Government control, scrutiny, and evaluation of public policies.
