Speaker of the House of Representatives Holds Phone Talks with President of the European Parliament on Consolidating Parliamentary Coordination

Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami held, recently, phone talks with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. The two parties focused mainly on consolidating dialogue and consultations between the two parliamentary institutions and strengthening the Morocco-Europe partnership.

During their talks, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the European Parliament highlighted the depth of the friendship and cooperation ties linking the Kingdom of Morocco to the European Union.

They also reviewed various questions of mutual parliamentary interest and the means to intensify coordination in this respect, especially concerning the European Neighborhood Policy and the common challenges like migration, climate change, renewable energies, human development, security, counter-terrorism and the economic and commercial cooperation.

At the geopolitical level, the two parties focused on the Mediterranean dimension and the ties between the European Union, Morocco and Africa, considering the major importance His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, places on Africa.

The two officials also discussed boosting the action of the Joint EU-Morocco Parliamentary Committee, which is an actual mechanism for continuous political dialogue. In addition, they exchanged views on joining the efforts of the two parliamentary institutions as part of the organization of the next EU-Africa Parliamentary Forum, following the high Royal directives.

Mr. Talbi El Alami and Ms. Metsola, as members of the Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM), stressed the necessity of giving more dynamism to the action of the Assembly in order to address the challenges that arise in the Mediterranean region, which require constant coordination and concerted efforts.

During their phone talks, Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami affirmed to the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, that he would present the priorities of the Moroccan Presidency of the PA-UfM during his next visit to the European Parliament, as well as the progress of elaborating and implementing the agreement to fund the parliamentary twinning between the House of Representatives and the EU.
