Speaker of House of Representatives Holds Meeting with Chairpersons of Parliamentary Groups and Caucus on June 8th, 2020

Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki held a meeting with the chairpersons of parliamentary groups and caucus on Monday, June 8th, 2020. The meeting tackled the work plan of the House in legislation and Government control.

The participants initiated the meeting by recalling the decision 106/20 issued by the Constitutional Court. In this respect, they noted its importance, as it is a new milestone in constitutional jurisprudence and a reference work in legislative and parliamentary action in general.

The meeting also stressed the importance of constitutional and procedural dialogue. The latter enriches the national scene and gives a new dynamism that enables achieving important jurisprudential build-ups.

Regarding the House activities, and mainly the sitting for questions on general policy addressed to the Head of Government, the House’s components affirmed the significance the sitting, as its date coincides with the end of the sanitary lockdown, and it focuses on the Government’s strategy to get through the state of public health emergency.

Also, the meeting discussed the plenary sittings devoted to oral questions. Accordingly, the participants stressed the importance of the topics tackled in the sittings, which are strictly related to the current situation and its economic, social, and security-related developments in our country. The participants also called for making more efforts during the next weeks through diversifying the mechanisms of questioning by scheduling several ministries in each session, while rationally managing the time frame to achieve both efficiency and benefit at once.

As concerns legislation, the House components renewed their keenness to give proper importance to the parliamentary initiatives. In this context, the parliamentary groups and caucus stressed the importance of adhering to the Rules of Procedure and respecting the convention of the monthly sitting devoted to studying and approving parliamentary bills, and amending them when necessary.

The chairpersons of parliamentary groups and caucus also noted the remarkable outcomes of the works of the House in legislation and control during the sanitary lockdown. Besides, they reiterated the importance of engaging in building consensus that prioritizes the highest interest of the country. Such consensus culminated in issuing many legal texts that regulate a wide range of aspects of life, and in conducting several control initiatives that shed light on numerous issues that concern the public opinion.

As for the upcoming submission of the Amending Finance Bill, the meeting discussed the provision of all the necessary means and constitutional and legal guarantees to ensure the success of this legislative action.
