Speaker of the House of Representatives Discusses Consolidating Bilateral and Multilateral Parliamentary Cooperation with Ambassador of the Republic of Guatemala

Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami received on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, the Ambassador of the Republic of Guatemala to the Kingdom of Morocco, Erick Escobedo Ayala.

At the start of the meeting, the Ambassador of the Republic of Guatemala congratulated Mr. Rachid Talbi El Alami on his election to the Speakership of the House. In the same respect, Mr. Erick Escobedo Ayala lauded the historical political and diplomatic ties linking the two countries, whose 50th anniversary was celebrated last year. Furthermore, the Ambassador expressed his esteem for the wisdom and directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, and the measures taken to mitigate the repercussions of COVID-19. In the same vein, he commended the Moroccan experience in several areas, noting that “the Kingdom of Morocco has become a leading model.”

In addition, the Ambassador of the Republic of Guatemala to Rabat noted that his country aims to consolidate its economic and commercial links and coordination with the Kingdom of Morocco, as well as the exchange of experiences and expertise on questions of mutual interest like security, health, climate change, renewable energies and digital transition. He also affirmed that the parliamentary relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Guatemala are excellent, adding that his country aspires to strengthen them further at the bilateral and multilateral levels through the exchange of visits, parliamentary friendship groups and coordination at the various parliamentary fora.

For his part, Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami expressed his thanks to the Ambassador of the Republic of Guatemala, Erick Escpdedo Ayala, for his visit to the House. On this occasion, the Speaker of the House commended the distinguished relationships between the two countries and hailed the Guatemalan support to the UN course and the autonomy plan as a realistic and acceptable political solution to end the artificial conflict in the Southern Provinces of the Kingdom of Morocco.

Also, the Speaker of the House of Representatives commended the quality of Morocco-Guatemala bilateral and multilateral parliamentary relations, noting that he already paid a visit in May 2016 to the Congress of the Republic of Guatemala, where he was honored to be awarded a medal on the occasion of his participation in a session of the Central American Parliament; at which point a cooperation agreement was concluded between the two legislative institutions.

In the end, Mr. Rachid Talbi El Alami reiterated that the House of Representatives is open to all constructive initiatives and parliamentary questions of mutual interest, adding that he looks forward to institutionalizing these relationships at the bilateral and multilateral levels, through regional and sub-regional parliamentary fora; convergence of views and positions regarding the current priorities on the parliamentary agenda; and creation of new spaces for South-South parliamentary cooperation.
