Speaker of the House of Representatives and UK Minister of State for the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and the United Nations Discuss Means to Consolidate Morocco-UK Ties

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, held talks, on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, in London, with the UK Minister of State for the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and the United Nations, Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon. The talks focused on the means to consolidate the UK-Morocco bilateral and multilateral ties.

In their meeting, the two parties commended the historic friendship relations linking the Kingdom of Morocco and the United Kingdom and their current state marked with positive momentum. In the same regard, the two parties stressed the role of Parliaments in reinforcing democracy, peace, and security. They also discussed the means to strengthen the parliamentary cooperation links between the legislative institutions of the two countries.

The meeting, which featured the presence of the Ambassador of His Majesty to the United Kingdom, H.E. Hakim Hajoui, was an opportunity to discuss several regional and international questions of mutual concern.

It should be noted that the Speaker of the House of Representatives is currently on a working visit to the United Kingdom on July 11-13, where he met with the Speaker of the House of Commons, Hon. Lindsay Hoyle, and the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Mr. Stephen Twigg.

The meetings aimed to promote coordination within regional and international parliamentary organizations, intensify the exchange of expertise at the political and administrative levels, introduce the strategic projects launched by the Kingdom of Morocco, and highlight its institutional experience.
