Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami held talks on Monday, February 21, 2022, at the House, with the Speaker of the Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis, currently on a working visit to our country at the head of an important parliamentary delegation.
During this meeting, the Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament hailed the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, at the African level. In the same respect, he lauded the excellent solid and multidimensional ties linking the Kingdom of Morocco to different West African countries.
The Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis noted the keenness of the ECOWAS Parliament to establish firm and privileged bonds with the two Houses of the Moroccan Parliament. In this regard, he stated, "We share several features, and the parliamentary ties will contribute to further rapprochement between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Community."
For his part, Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami highlighted that the Kingdom of Morocco and the ECOWAS countries maintain strong relations and face common challenges related to security, stability, development, climate change, renewable energies and Covid-19. "These require further rapprochement, coordination and joint action," he stated.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives called for consolidating the joint African parliamentary action to serve the interests of African peoples and entrench democratic values. In the same vein, he said, "Africa is the continent of the future, and we must work together to develop it and guarantee a better future."
The two sides agreed to give new impetus to cooperation between the House of Representatives and the ECOWAS Parliament. They also agreed to pursue continuous coordination and consultation on all questions of mutual interest and strengthen parliamentary dialogue and communication.
