Speaker of the House of Representatives and President of Global Council for Tolerance and Peace Emphasize The Necessity to Consolidate and Spread the Culture of Tolerance, Peaceful Coexistence, Peace, and Noble Human Values

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, met, on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at the seat of the House in Rabat, with the President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, H.E. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Jarwane, on the occasion of the 10^th Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace, held in Rabat and Dakhla on July 13-15, 2022.

During their talks, which were also attended by the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Mohamed Sebbari, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace stressed the role of parliaments and parliamentarians in spreading the culture of tolerance and peaceful coexistence, upholding the values of humanity, and promoting rapprochement between nations and peoples.

At the outset of the meeting, H.E. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Jarwane expressed his gratitude to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Kingdom of Morocco for their constant engagement in supporting international peace and security efforts. In this regard, he gave an overview of the context of the establishment of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, its objectives, and its mission, which consists mainly of spreading the culture of tolerance in light of the growing extremism and violence phenomena. Thus, he added, there is a need for organizations, especially non-governmental ones, to play greater roles through training, exchange of experiences, and dialogue, to achieve the desired change on the ground. In addition, the President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace highlighted the critical role the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace could play to that end.

For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami praised the efforts made by the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace and its various bodies, especially the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace. In this context, he noted that the 10^th Session would be an occasion to showcase the Moroccan experience in the fight against terrorism, the fight against hate speech, the promotion of religious tolerance, and the dissemination of peace, security, and coexistence. Furthermore, the Speaker of the House of Representatives stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and constant communication between parliaments and parliamentarians in order to spread the culture of peace and tolerance and establish dialogue channels between nations and peoples.

It should be noted that the talks between the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, and the President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, H.E. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Jarwane were an opportunity to discuss international peace and security issues, including the health situation and the repercussions of the current economic and social conditions.
