Speaker of House of Representatives and Director General of ICESCO Agree to Institutionalize Partnership and Promote Coordination and Cooperation in Fields of Education, Sciences and Culture

Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami received, on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at the House, the Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), Mr. Salim Mohammed Al-Malik, and his entourage, including the Deputy Director-General, Mr. Abdelilah Benarafa; the Head of the Partnerships and International Cooperation Department, Ms. Amira Al Fadel; and the Head of the Legal Affairs and International Standards Department, Mr. Mohamed Al-Hadi Al-Suhaili.

At the outset of this meeting, Dr. Salim Mohammed Al-Malik, and his accompanying delegation, thanked Mr. Rachid Talbi El Alami for the warm reception and hospitality and expressed his pride in convening this meeting, which would undoubtedly foster relations between the two institutions and offer an occasion to exchange information on their respective activities, in sight of intensifying coordination and cooperation.

The Director-General of the ICESCO recalled the Organization's new vision and presented the various goals, achievements, initiatives, and activities achieved in education, sciences, and culture. He also underlined the interest of the Organization in current issues such as youth, women, creativity, artificial intelligence, sports, space sciences, media, communication, culture, and digital transformation, which represent a core interest of the Representatives also.

In addition, Dr. Salim Mohammed Al-Malik highlighted the celebrations planned in Rabat, the capital of culture in the Islamic world. In this respect, he recalled the activities programmed by the ICESCO, expressing his motivation in having a solid partnership with the House of Representatives and other stakeholders for more coordination regarding these celebrations.

The Director-General of the ICESCO also noted that the Organization, together with the Muslim World League and the Mohammadia League of Scholars in the Kingdom of Morocco, announced the launch of preparations to host the International exhibition and Museum of Prophetic History and Islamic Civilization at the headquarters of the ICESCO in Rabat, under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. It should be noted that this event coincides with the celebration of Rabat as the capital of culture in the Islamic world for the year 2022.

For his part, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami expressed his thanks to Dr. Salim Mohammed Al-Malik and his accompanying delegation and valued the volume of activities and information exchanged during this meeting, stressing the openness of the House of Representatives and its various bodies to strengthen the partnership with the ICESCO. In the same vein, Mr. Rachid Talbi El Alami reiterated the House’s commitment and support for the activities of celebrating Rabat as the capital of culture in the Islamic world.

During these talks, Mr. Rachid Talbi El Alami proposed institutionalizing the relation tying the House of Representatives and ICESCO by establishing a partnership agreement and the convention of joint meetings and activities on culture, education, social upbringing, issues of digital transformation, climate change, and sciences. According to him, such themes remain among the main interests of the House of Representatives and its standing committees and the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization.

The meeting between the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami, and the Director-General of ICESCO, Dr. Salim Mohammed Al-Malik, and his accompanying delegation, was also an occasion during which the Speaker of the House of Representatives gave an overview of the achievements and dynamism that the Moroccan House of Representatives is witnessing, as it has been able to occupy a distinguished position in the country and within many continental, regional and international parliamentary assemblies and organizations, qualifying it to be an institutional model.
