Speaker of the House of Representative Rachid Talbi Alami received, on Thursday, December 9, 2021, Mr. Chung Keeyong, the Ambassador of the Republic of South Korea to the Kingdom of Morocco.
At the outset of this meeting, the South Korean Ambassador congratulated Rachid Talbi Alami for his election to the Speakership of the House of Representatives. Furthermore, on this occasion, Mr. Chung Keeyong commended the relations between Rabat and Seoul and expressed his great appreciation for the wisdom of His Majesty King Mohamed VI, may Allah assist him, and for his royal directives and measures to counter the repercussions of Covid-19.
The South Korean Ambassador reiterated his country's support to the Kingdom of Morocco and its just causes at the various regional and international fora. He further noted that Seoul is looking forward to fostering its relations with Rabat, namely in fields of common interest, such as the promotion of investments, economic cooperation, commercial exchange, climate change issues, renewable energies and modern technologies. Moreover, Mr. CHUNG KEEYONG noted that the Embassy of the Republic of South Korea in Rabat will commemorate its 60th anniversary next year, giving a new impetus and upgrading the ties linking the two countries, namely in the parliamentary field.
For his part, Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi Alami thanked the Ambassador of the Republic of South Korea, CHUNG KEEYONG, for his congratulations and visit. He also commended the quality of the Morocco-South Korea relations. Additionally, The Speaker noted that the changes happening around the world require openness to new spaces and search for partnerships. In this respect, he added that Seoul is a trustworthy partner and friend to Rabat given the convergence of parliamentary issues and challenges raised on the national, regional and international levels, adding that Morocco is South Korea's entry point to Africa.
The meeting was also an opportunity for Mr. Talbi Alami to present the main achievements attained by Morocco under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohamed VI, may Allah assist him. In this context, he noted that thanks to His Majesty’s initiatives and instructions, Morocco has become a leading country regionally and internationally in countering the repercussions of Covid-19. Mr. Rachid Talbi Alami also gave an overview of the Moroccan parliamentary experience and the circumstances under which the recent elections took place, despite the inadequate conditions posed by the pandemic, which consolidated trust in the Moroccan model and its orientations.
In addition, the Speaker of the House expressed his aspiration for the institutionalization of the Morocco-South Korea parliamentary relations on both bilateral and multilateral levels, through the convergence of views and positions regarding the common parliamentary issues, the creation of new spaces for cooperation and discussion of questions, especially those on education, water, renewable energies, digital transition, youth, economic and industrial development and investment opportunities.
The reception of the South Korean Ambassador, CHUNG KEEYONG, by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, was also an opportunity for the two officials to discuss several bilateral, regional and international parliamentary issues of mutual interest, which may help in advancing the relations between the two countries.
