The Speaker of the Chamber of Representative receives the President of the Mexican-Moroccan Parliamentary Friendship Group at mexican Chamber of Deputies

The House of Representatives Speaker, Mr. Habib El Malki received, in the House Headquarters, the President of the Mexican-Moroccan parliamentary friendship group at the Mexican Chamber of Deputies Mrs. Maria Del Carmen Bautista Peláez, who is paying a friendship and working visit to Morocco.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Speaker of the house of Representative hailed this visit, recalling the deep historical relations between Morocco and Mexico. He explained that the two countries share the legacy of the civilisation of Andalusia and their bilateral relations have a new impetus, since the historic visit of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to Mexico in 2004 and the visit of the President of Mexico to Morocco in the following year. Mr. Habib El Malki added, “There is an increasing and mutual interest on the updates that originate from both countries.”

The Speaker of the house of Representative recalled the convergence of views between the two countries on various vital international issues, including the migration and climate changes. "

As concerns the issue of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, Mr. Habib El Malki stressed that “The current geopolitical circumstances consider security and stability to be one of the highest priorities and that the period of the Cold War during which the dispute over the Moroccan Sahar was fabricated, and this war has ended a long time ago.
In this regard, Mr. Habib El Malki recalled the international resolutions on the subject, and highlighted the Moroccoan proposal for autonomy as a realistic and credible solution to overcome the blockage of the United Nations efforts to settle the conflict. The House of Representative Speaker pointed out that an increasing number of Central, South American, Caribbean and African and the rest of the world are now supporting the Moroccan proposal after they were briefed on the details of the issue and the real situation.

On the issue of parliamentary cooperation, the Speaker of the House of Representatives invited the Mexican Chamber of Deputies President to pay a working visit to our country, one that will be an occasion to institutionalise relations between the two legislative institutions and discuss means to enhance bilateral relations to a broader framework of cooperation.

From her part, Mrs. Maria Del Carmen Bautista Peláez indicated that the relation between the two countries has achieved a significant evolution, and lauded the participation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives to represent His Majesty King Mohammed VI at the inauguration ceremony of the current Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, Mrs, Carmen Bautista Peláez said that ‘We aspire to strengthen relations between the two countries, and we view Morocco as the gateway to Africa, and there is a lot to learn from Morocco’. The President of the Mexican-Moroccan Parliamentary friendship group called for intensifying parliamentary cooperation between the two legislative institutions, ‘This meeting is only a beginning and we strive to consolidate bilateral relations between the two countries.’ Added Mrs. Carmen Bautista Peláez.

For his part, Mr. Alfredo Femat Bañuelos, President of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies and member of the Mexican-Moroccan Parliamentary Friendship Group, stressed that Morocco’s proposal for autonomy to solve the Sahara issue is a ‘wise proposal’, praising Morocco’s endeavours to find a peaceful solution, He also expressed his admiration for the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which has contributed to changing many countries position regarding the Sahara issue.”

This meeting was attended by the Ambassador of His Majesty to Mexico Mr. Abdel-Fattah Al-Labbar, Mr. Jamal Benchekroun Karimi, President of the Moroccan-Mexican Parliamentary Friendship Group in the House of Representatives, and Mr. Youssef Gharbi, president of the Foreign, National Defense, Islamic Affairs and Moroccans living abroad committee in the House of Representatives.
