In accordance with the high Royal directives outlined in the message addressed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah glorify him, to the participants in the national symposium organized under the high patronage of His Majesty on January 17, 2024, in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the first elected Parliament in the Kingdom, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, chaired, at the Seat of the House, a series of meetings with the Chairpersons of the Parliamentary Groups and Caucus and the Committee in charge of revising the Rules of Procedure. The meetings aimed to draft and adopt a new Parliamentary Code of Conduct in a way that contributes to advancing the moralization of parliamentary life.
During the meeting held on Monday, February 5, 2024, under the chairmanship of the Speaker of the House, the Chairpersons of the Parliamentary Groups and Caucus agreed on pursuing the focus on drafting a new version of the Parliamentary Code of Conduct that will be included in the provisions of the House’s Rules of Procedure, with a view to rendering its tenor further precise, efficient, deep, comprehensive, coherent, cohesive, and in line with the Constitution, and in order to implement the high Royal directives in which His Majesty stressed the imperative of “establishing a legally binding code of conduct in the two Houses of Parliament.”
The Chairpersons of the Parliamentary Groups and Caucus will pursue their meetings during the inter-session recess to adopt this text, taking into consideration that all the House components are mobilized to implement the tenor of the Royal message with regard to moralizing, advancing, and ameliorating parliamentary action to entrench the maturity it has achieved, and to promote the democracy of representative institutions, as underscored by His Majesty may Allah glorify him.
