New York: House of Representatives Takes Part in IPU Annual Parliamentary Meeting under CSW67 on March 7, 2023

Rep. Khadouj Slassi, the representative of the Moroccan Representation at the Inter-Parliamentary Union and member of the Socialist Group, took part on March 7, 2023, in New York, the United States, in the annual parliamentary meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, organized by the latter in partnership with the Commission on the Status of Women on the occasion of its 67th Session.

The joint meeting, which covers “the Role of Parliaments in Consolidating Gender Equality through Technology,” discusses the best means to reinforce the parliamentary commitment towards promoting gender equality via the contribution of civil society and national institutions. The meeting was also an opportunity to exchange of views and practices aimed at empowering women and girls through the use of technology, and work on addressing dangers like violence.

The meeting also featured the intensive participation of several parliamentary delegations from different world countries, UN experts and officials, diplomatic representatives, and revered researchers and academics specializing in the questions related to the consolidation of gender equality via technology.

In her intervention on occasion, Rep. Khadouj Slassi noted the great role of women in understanding and managing crises amidst a global context marked by changes, pandemics, climate change, and water scarcity. The Representative also commended the contribution of women parliamentarians to advancing women's participation in political, economic, and cultural decision-making and securing the digital space not to undermine the achievements of several States in equality and the gender approach.

In order to entrench equality and advance women’s conditions, the Representative stressed the imperative of the commitment of parliamentarians to their constitutional and representative missions, namely the oversight of public policies and the degree to which they effectively include equality and gender approach at the level of all sectors, and their work in legislation, amelioration of laws in order to enhance the participation of women in decision-making and achieving parity through clear, transparent, and constant legal mechanisms, amelioration of the legal texts related to fighting violence against women, including digital violence, expanding the scope of awareness and mobilization, and the keenness to maintain the relation between parliamentarians and their electors to decrease the impact of the cultural barrier in this double mission.
