New York: House of Representatives Takes Part in 68th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women

A delegation of the House of Representatives from the Interim Thematic Working Group on Equality and Parity, is participating in the 68th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women under UN Women, held in New York from March 11 to 22, 2024.

The delegation comprises Rep. Latifa Chrif (Head of the delegation, Socialist Group – Ittihadi Opposition), Rep. Fatima Khair (Group of the National Rally of Independents), Rep. Samira Hijazi (Istiqlali Group of Unity and Egalitarianism), Rep. Aziza Boujrida (Haraki Group), Rep. Khadija Oulbacha (Constitutional, Democratic, and Social Group), and Rep. Touria Afif (Parliamentary Caucus of Justice and Development).

At the opening session of this international meeting, the members of the Temporary Thematic Working Group on Equality and Parity were honored to be granted a representative seat for the Moroccan Parliament, in the person of Rep. Latifa Chrif, head of the parliamentary delegation, alongside the seat of the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration, and Family and the Kingdom's Permanent Representation to the United Nations. The session also featured the presentation of a summary of the Kingdom of Morocco's report on the status of women, in the presence of several high-level personalities representing government departments working in the field of women's issues.

During the first day, the parliamentary delegation also attended several side activities like the meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on the “Role of parliamentarians in empowering women,” the meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on the “International Family Day,” and the meeting of the League of Arab States on the “Conditions of women and girls in the Gaza strip.”

This session features several side activities organized by a number of States and international organizations, as well as non-governmental organizations, namely the meetings organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union in partnership with UN Women and international partners on themes like “Gender-sensitive parliaments: Advancing gender equality to end poverty,” “Equal participation and leadership for a more peaceful world: Lessons learned and the way forward,” and “Advancing women’s political participation and decision making.”

The members of the Interim Thematic Working Group on Equality and Parity will pursue their participation in this global women's summit, which was created to achieve gender equality, establish its standards, and elaborate concrete policies to reinforce gender equality and advance women's conditions worldwide.
