The House of Representatives was the stage on Monday, October 31, 2022, of talks between the members of the Morocco-South Korea Parliamentary Friendship Groups, as Ms. In Jae Keu led a delegation of Korean parliamentarians currently on a working visit to the Kingdom of Morocco, during which they will hold talks with their Moroccan counterparts.
The Moroccan side was represented by members of the Morocco-South Korea Parliamentary Friendship Group, including Rep. Mohamed Hichami (Haraki Group), Rep. Rachid Hammouni (Group of Progress and Socialism), Rep. Jamal Diouani (Istiqlali Group of Unity and Egalitarianism), Rep. Faiçal Zerhouni (Constitutional, Democratic, and Social Group), Rep. Seloua Demnati (Socialist Group), Rep. Hind Bennani (Parliamentary Caucus of Justice and Development).
The meeting started with a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the sad incident in Seoul last Sunday, which led to the death of 150 people after a crowd crush. Then, Rep. Hichami presented condolences on behalf of all Group members to his Korean counterpart and showed his solidarity with the victims' families.
During the meeting, the two parties noted the imperative of implementing the Memorandum of Understanding concluded in May 2018 between the two parliaments, which has been delayed due to Covid-19.
In his intervention, Rep. Hichami expressed his admiration for South Korea, its leaders, government, and people. He also expressed appreciation for the country's development, especially in the electronic industry. Besides, he noted his hope for benefitting from the Korean experience in modern technologies and renewable energies, growing the bilateral relations to extend the level of commercial exchange and consolidate investments. In the same respect, he reviewed the opportunities offered by the Kingdom of Morocco, which has cumulated several experiences in areas like fertilizers and logistics. The Moroccan Representative also noted that Tanger-Med Port might be a gate to advancing a fruitful partnership with South Korea.
For the Korean side, Ms. In Jae Keun, who was accompanied by the Ambassador of South Korea to Rabat, H.E. Chung Keeyong, expressed her happiness for being in the Kingdom of Morocco and her aspiration for this meeting to be the start of more fruitful partnerships that serve the interests of both countries.
The two parties concluded the meeting by agreeing on the importance of uplifting the bilateral ties, exploiting the experiences of each side, despite the geographical distance constraints that should not inhibit exchange in economy, politics, and culture.
