Moroccan Parliamentary Delegation Takes Part in Meeting of the Committee on Cooperation and Development under the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie

At the invitation of the Speaker of the National Assembly of Québec, Hon. Nathalie Roy, the Committee on Cooperation and Development under the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie held a meeting on May 24-26, 2023, in Québec, Canada.

The Moroccan parliamentary delegation included the members of the Committee:

- Rep. Houssain Ouallal (Group of the National Rally of Independents),

- Cllr. Mohammed Reda El Houmaini (Group of the General Union of Moroccan Enterprises).

The meeting, chaired by Cllr. Mohammed Reda El Houmaini, as Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on Cooperation and Development, examined several questions of utmost importance, including adaptation to climate change, challenges of food security and biodiversity, food security and sovereignty, and energy transition.

In his intervention, Rep. Houssain Ouallal shed light on the efforts deployed by the Kingdom of Morocco in energy transition. In this respect, he highlighted the major headlines of the national energy strategy that is based on consolidating renewable energies and providing energy through the adoption of measures of energy efficiency, in addition to prioritizing the latter in the various productive sectors. The Representative also noted the various measures and programs of energy efficiency that were implemented, which culminated in significant economy of energy and contributed to the reinforcement of national potential and increase in the degree of awareness about the importance of energy efficiency.

It should be noted that the Committee on Cooperation and Development specializes in areas of human development (health, population, and poverty), sustainable development (environment, energy, and agriculture), and economic development as regard cooperation, democracy, and solidarity.

Among its priorities figures the control of commercial negotiations run under the auspices of the World Trade Organization. In this respect, the Committee concluded several partnerships in favor of parliamentarians with international organizations, such as the Francophonie Institute for Sustainable Development (IFDD), the World Bank, the Association of Francophone Notaries, the World Trade Organization, and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.
