In a Message to Speaker of House of Representatives, Chilean Chamber of Deputies Expresses “Full Support and Esteem for Efforts of Kingdom of Morocco in Migration”

President of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies Diego Paulsen and several former presidents and deputies of the Chilean Parliament expressed their full support and esteem for the efforts of the Kingdom of Morocco in migration. Furthermore, they lauded the decision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to facilitate the return of undocumented unaccompanied Moroccan minors in some EU countries.

In a message received by Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki, the Chilean deputies affirmed, "It is no coincidence that during the 2017 Joint AU–EU Summit in Abidjan, the leaders of African countries and governments chose His Majesty King Mohammed VI as a pioneer in managing migration in Africa and that the Kingdom of Morocco hosts the African Migration Observatory."

The members of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies stressed, “The role of Morocco in fighting terrorism, human trafficking, and illegal migration cannot be disregarded as it reflects positively on security and stability of its EU neighbors.” They also praised the efforts of the Kingdom of Morocco and its cooperation in migration, which enabled “the abortion of more than 14,000 illegal migration attempt since 2017, the dismantlement of 5000 human trafficking networks, the rescue of more than 80,500 migrants at sea, and the prevention of countless storming attempts.”

The same members, as legislators, expressed their rejection "of any resolution or attempt to undermine and ignore the great efforts of the Kingdom of Morocco in migration." They added, "The exploitation of the European Parliament in a purely bilateral crisis between the Kingdom of Morocco and Spain would not contribute to finding solutions but aggravate the tensions. We think that such a gesture weakens cooperation, which could be better if there had been a greater commitment to valuing the role of the Kingdom of Morocco as a neighboring country and if efforts had been concerted to ensure further peace and stability in the region."
