Jakarta: Speaker of the House of Representatives Takes Part in the Parliamentary Dialogue Session with Morocco and Holds Talks with Several Speakers of Legislative Assemblies and Heads of Delegations Attending AIPA’s 44th General Assembly

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, took part, on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, as chief guest, in the parliamentary dialogue session with Morocco, held in Jakarta, Indonesia. He also held talks with several Speakers of legislative assemblies and heads of delegations taking part in the 44th General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (AIPA), held at the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia from August 5 to 10, 2023, under the theme: "Responsive Parliaments for a Stable and Prosperous ASEAN."

The Parliamentary Dialogue Session with Morocco, attended by H.E. Ouadie Benabdellah, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to the Republics of Indonesia and Singapore, focused on the theme:  “Parliamentary Cooperation: Shared Commitments for Peace, Stability, and Prosperity.” On this occasion, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami underlined the peculiarity of the Moroccan development model and the major projects launched by the Kingdom of Morocco under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God glorify him, which have enabled the Kingdom to enjoy prosperity and stability.

In their interventions, the representatives of the Parliaments of the Member States taking part in the Parliamentary Dialogue Session with Morocco praised our country's leading role in the fields of economy, diplomacy, and South-South cooperation, as a role model at the continental and international levels, a stable country, and a key actor in spreading peace and coexistence.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives highlighted Morocco's 60 years of parliamentary experience, reviewing the relations between the legislative power and the other branches, as well as the prerogatives and competences entrusted to the Moroccan Parliament under the 2011 Constitution in terms of legislation, control of government action, evaluation of public policies, in addition to parliamentary diplomacy through presence and coordination in various regional and international parliamentary fora.

Besides, the Speaker of the House of Representatives held bilateral meetings on August 8-9, 2023, with the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Hon. Puan Maharani; the Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives, Hon. Rais Yatim;  the Speaker of the Thai House of Representatives, Hon. Wan Muhamad Noor Matha; the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Brunei, Hon. Abdul Rahman Taib; the Speaker of the National Assembly of Laos, Hon. Saysomphone Phomvihane; and Ms. Nguyen Thuy Anh, the Chairperson of the Social Affairs Committee and the Group of Women Parliamentarians at the Vietnamese National Assembly.

The talks focused on the means of consolidating parliamentary cooperation, while stressing the importance of respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of States and non-interference in their internal affairs.

The meetings provided an opportunity for the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the Speakers of the legislative assemblies and heads of delegations to discuss questions of common parliamentary interest, and to strengthen coordination in international parliamentary fora. The parties also discussed the situation in the regional and international arenas.
