Member of the Moroccan Parliamentary Representation at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Maroua Ansari took part on Friday, February 4, 2022, via videoconference, in the parliamentary web dialogue on: “Clean Energy Revolution and its Implications on OSCE Region." The event involved over 100 parliamentarians, experts and representatives of States participating in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, with a view to opening an extensive political debate on evaluating the current energy orientations and foreseeing the eventual social, economic and environmental implications of energy transition.

Specialists from the scientific committee, parliamentarians and officials of the OSCE highlighted the latest technological developments in energy production and the eventual geopolitical implications of the transition from fossil fuels to clean energy. Moreover, the participants discussed the necessary policies for promoting the carbon-free energy sector and the role of national parliaments and the global inter-parliamentary institutions in this respect.

The participants also stressed the importance of spreading awareness of the problem of climate change and the environment, and the pressing need to put in place mitigation mechanisms. In addition, the participants underlined the need to explore eco-friendly innovative energy policies, emphasizing at the same time the importance of leading a successful international transition in the field of energy, taking into account the macroeconomic changes and the role of the private sector in this process and the need of OSCE to diversify energy sources to curb climate change and consolidate energy security.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe is an institution functioning under the umbrella of OSCE. Founded upon the 1990 Paris Summit and involving 323 members, the Assembly aims at encouraging the involvement of the national parliaments from the member States. This can be achieved through adopting decisions, issuing official recommendations for participating governments and parliaments in OSCE. The Assembly also follows up the participating States' implementation of the goals set by OSCE, including the ones made through legislative procedures.
