In His Talks with Speaker of Libyan House of Representatives, Speaker of House of Representatives Affirms Constant Support of Kingdom of Morocco and HM King Mohammed VI to Libyan People

Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki held talks on Friday, June 4, 2021, in Rabat, with Speaker of Libyan House of Representatives Aguila Saleh Issa, currently on an official visit to our country.

At the start, the Speaker of the House of Representatives noted that this meeting, the seventh of its kind since 2017, is part of the continuous exchange of thoughts and consultation in favor of the Libyan question and to meet the hopes and aspirations of the brotherly Libyan people, mainly peace, stability, collective security, and constructing a modern civil State on a strong democratic, national, and constitutional bases.

Mr. El Malki lauded the commitment of the Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives to the unity of Libya. He also noted his central position at the Libyan national scene and constructive contribution to defining the headlines of a national decision that ensures building institutions and extending bridges of communication between the different parties based on agreement and prioritizing the public interest. In this respect, he said, "You succeeded in not only making the Libyan House of Representatives obtain the UN, international, Arab, African, Islamic, European, and American recognition, but also a wide welcome from the different spectra and several international organizations interested and concerned with achieving a peaceful democratic transition."

The Speaker of the House of Representatives highlighted the supportive, transparent, and neutral role of the Kingdom of Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in paving the way and extending communication bridges and converging views and wills between the groups of Libyan people, underlining the main stages of the inter-Libyan dialogue hosted by Morocco in Sekhirat, Bouzenika, Rabat, and Tangier. Such meetings "were platforms to dialogue, negotiation, and convergence of Libyan views. Morocco had a strong presence without intruding, dictating, or manipulating the parties by action or statements. On the contrary, it has eased convergence, agreement, and the achievement of solutions and adequate forms to build the Libyan future. First, through the cessation of hostilities and end of bloodshed, then the removal of all foreign forces from the country, and, lastly, by the achievement of a political settlement agreed upon by all Libyans."

Mr. El Malki expressed his satisfaction with the improvement of the situation in Libya and its progress forwards to "overcoming the crisis towards peace and national unity, and from an era of disruption and armed conflict towards an era of institutions and democratic construction." In the same respect, he noted that Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, will always remain at the disposal of the brotherly Libyan people and serve it with its expertise, skills, and potential, and will always accompany it until it achieves the conclusions of Libyan political dialogue.

For his part, Speaker of Libyan House of Representatives Aguila Saleh Issa expressed his gratitude for Morocco, its King, people, Government, and Parliament, for their sincere support to the Libyan people. He also commended the role of His Majesty King Mohammed VI in enabling the Libyan parties to achieve agreement, resolve the Libyan question, and build a unified State. Besides, he noted that Libyans are committed to the conclusions of the Bouzenika Agreement concluded in the Kingdom of Morocco, especially the provisions related to senior positions.

On the same occasion, Mr. Aguila Saleh highlighted the latest developments of the Libyan question, praising the agreement of the Libyan parties on forming an executive branch and a national government that has obtained the confidence of the House of Representatives. He also called for the cessation of foreign involvement in Libyan affairs and the exclusion of all armed militia. In this respect, he said, "The construction of Libyan institutions has started, but it is hindered by foreign involvement."

The Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives stressed the importance of holding the elections at the set date and deciding on senior positions. He also reiterated the engagement of the Libyan House of Representatives in the UN efforts to solve the Libyan crisis.
