A delegation of the House of Representatives, including the members of the National Representation at the Andean Parliament, Rep. Fatine El Ghali (Group of the National Rally of Independents) and Rep. Mohammed Touimi Benjelloun (Group of Authenticity and Modernity), took part in the October Session of the Andean Parliament, which coincides with the 44th Anniversary of its establishment.
The Session featured an address by the Moroccan delegation, given by Rep. Fatine El Ghali on behalf of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami. In the address, the Moroccan Representative congratulated the components of the Andean Parliament on the occasion. She also noted the important role of this organization on the continental level, adding that the accession of the Moroccan Parliament to the Andean Parliament as an observer member underscores the desire of the Kingdom to support the integration process in which several countries of the Andean community have engaged. The accession also falls under the strategic choice of the Kingdom, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in reinforcing South-South-Cooperation. Besides, Rep. Fatine El Ghali shed light on the major development in several areas witnessed by all the Kingdom's regions, particularly its Southern provinces, in addition to the opportunities the Kingdom offers thanks to its geostrategic position as a bridge between the countries of the Andean Community and Latin America, on the one hand, and those of the Arab world and Africa, on the other.
In the same respect, she expressed the gratitude of the Moroccan Parliament to the Andean Parliament for its support to the just causes of the Kingdom, at the forefront of which is its territorial integrity, which undoubtedly contributes to reinforcing relations between the two parliamentary institutions.
On the sidelines of their participation, the delegation of the House of Representatives held several bilateral talks, including a work session with the President and the Secretary-General of the Andean Parliament, where they discussed several projects that the two parties work on developing, including cooperation in higher education through the project of student exchange between the network of universities of the Andean Community and their Moroccan counterparts.
The parliamentary delegation also held a bilateral meeting with the representative of the Maarif Institute from Türkiye, where they tackled the prospects of cooperation in culture.
It should be noted that the Moroccan Parliament enjoys a distinguished position within this important parliamentary organ, particularly after the conclusion of an MoU between the two parties in July 2018 in Rabat. The said MoU aims to establish channels of communication and parliamentary interaction by exchanging visits, experiences, expertise, information, and documents. By virtue of the said MoU, the Moroccan Parliament was granted the status of advanced partner within the Andean Parliament.
