Delegation of the House of Representatives Holds Talks with Officials of the French Government and Parliament

The delegation of the House of Representatives pursues its working visit to the French Parliament. In this regard, the delegation held, on Thursday, December 8, 2022, talks with the First Deputy Speaker of the French National Assembly, MP. Valérie Rabault, and participated in a roundtable organized by the Group in Charge of Women's Rights and Equality of Opportunities for Men and Women at the French Senate.

The delegation members were received yesterday by Ms. Isabelle ROME, the Minister delegate to the Prime Minister in charge of gender equality, diversity, and equality opportunities.

During their talks, the French Minister stressed the importance of exchanging expertise between Morocco and France and fighting and preventing violence against women. The French Minister also noted that the visit of the Moroccan parliamentary delegation is an opportunity to consolidate exchange and dialogue on such an important societal issue.

Besides, the French Executive gave an overview of the French Government plan to fight and prevent violence against women and the significant bases and mechanisms of French public policies in fighting violence against women and achieving parity and equality of opportunities.

For their part, the members of the Moroccan delegation presented the major components of the public policies adopted by the Kingdom to curb and prevent violence against women and empower women economically. Additionally, they shed light on the mechanisms of providing care and accompanying women victims of violence, the laws related to fighting violence against women, and the mechanisms for women's inclusion.

The members of the Moroccan parliamentary delegation also noted the public, social, and civil society mobilization to prevent violence against women, including its digital aspect, and the convergence of public policies to achieve equality and guarantee women's rights as stipulated in the Constitution. They also stressed the importance of gender budgeting in establishing equal opportunities and including women in a way that ensures women's economic empowerment.

The Moroccan delegation also met with the Chair of the Friendship Group between the Moroccan House of Representatives and the French National Assembly on the French side, MP. Karim Ben Cheïkh. In their meeting, the two parties covered dialogue and exchange between the two legislative institutions, in addition to the role of parliamentary diplomacy in establishing balance in bilateral relations.

Moreover, the Moroccan parliamentary delegation held talks with the Deputy Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the French National Assembly, MP. Mireille Clapot. The talks covered several questions of mutual interest and the role of the two legislative institutions in consolidating balanced relations built on trust and mutual respect for the vital interests of the two friendly countries. 

The delegation of the House of Representatives, visiting the French National Assembly as part of the Institutional Twinning Program that links the Moroccan House of Representatives, the Assembly, the Czech Chamber of Deputies, and the Belgian House of Representatives, and supported by the European Union, includes the Deputy Speaker of the House, Rep. Nadia Touhami (Group of Progress and Socialism); the Clerk of the House, Rep. Ilham Saki (Group of Authenticity and Modernity); Rep. Idriss Chraibi (Group of the National Rally of Independents); Rep. Seloua Demnati (Socialist Group); Rep. Zineb Amahrouk (Haraki Group); and Rep. Hakima S’haki (Constitutional, Democratic, and Social Group).
